Being Tech Savvy

Every person, be it a kid or an adult, has been subject to the dialogue “You are always busy with your phone/laptop, what do you keep doing on it?”

Each generation must have written/studied the essay “Technology: A boon or A Bane?” While many of us have made it a tool for the ease of life, but unintentionally we are also letting it disturb the abilities of human mind.

Oops! The boring essay writer in me just came out. Sorry for the few boring words written above.

Actually, I was finding a way to start “Tech-savvy me” (because I wanted to show off) but couldn’t find any better way.

When my sibling had joined cooking classes, she learnt to make a new dish. Over excited that she was, on the way back home she bought a new appliance required for panning out that dish. Failure of successfully making out that dish let that device occupy space in our home for months. Once I decided to put it up for sale on OLX.

Mind you! I received a call for its purchase the very next day. The appliance was marked “sold” on the site within a day letting us earn a few bucks. (That is a different thing that overall we had a loss, for the product was sold at little less than its purchase price.)

My first online sale had me on a high, I had some novels lying at home which I had read once but didn’t like them enough to preserve their copies. So, next time I put them as well on sale; this time failing miserably. Utter failure. None of my books were sold; instead I removed my number from the ad to stay away from the bugging calls.

Note: On my second attempt just a few months back, I successfully sold some of those novels.

The other day, my sibling brought home a product; on seeing the information printed on it I immediately accessed the link for “booking a free movie ticket.” It was all successful the first time, on the second time purchase of the same product, the same offer was up for grabs. But this time, on availing the offer the required code was not sent by the concerned provider.

As I was adamant on getting the codes, (call it aware customer or running-after-free-products-customer) I mailed them (not once, but twice or thrice) right away stating the grievance. In the end, I was in the movie hall trying to enjoy a movie full of boredom. Had it been upto my siblings, they would have lazily given up midway or I wonder whether they would have tried to avail the offer in the first place or not.

I also got my closed ones discounted movie tickets which they were not able to book; not to mention that I asked them for the full payment of movie tickets (without transferring them any discount benefits) with an additional ‘handling charges’. Nevertheless, I didn’t get a penny.

Another time, I was too disturbed because I was not able to get readied an important document from a government office. The concerned authority there was adamant on its stand and was not ready to issue a certificate in special cases, even though we showed him the notification issued by the government for the same.
Dejected I came home, thinking of filing an RTS application with no hope for a solution at all. After a day or two, I got a call from the RTS handling staff inquiring about my complaint.

Back in time, I remember it was a day before a very crucial exam I had to appear for. I was all prepared and just browsing the web for a little more help which let me lay my hands on educational videos which literally helped me out in scoring a little more marks.

By the way, Does ordering pizzas online and making online payments count as being Tech-savvy?
