Technological features worth trying

Unexpected arrival?

So is the comeback for me.

However, I couldn't keep myself from sharing this amusing offering of the technology, to be specific, of Google. Awakening the writer within me.

How many times has it happened to you that you were humming a song, or maybe a tune, but found it hard to completely recognize the song, or were unable to remember the main lines?

Google has found a solution to exactly this crisis, if I may say.

It asks you to sing or hum whatever part of the song that you remember and then tries to match it to the closest melodies it has in stock.

Wanna give it a shot?

Just say "Hey Google" to your phone, (Obvious alert: if you haven't enabled Google, enable it first)

And say:- Find a song

The screen then asks you to sing or hum whilst displaying an equaliser-like thing, trying to find the song (or judging your singing capability as well.) Trust me, it wouldn't work that well if you are a pathetic singer, or it may work also. How do I know? After all, I'm not that bad a singer.

On a completely separate track, this OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature has not bemused me as such. But I once heard of it in my student days and it sort of lingered around in my mind, even though I never thought I would need to use it. Years later, stuck in official work this feature really came in handy when it converted the printed text into typed words verbatim.

Similarly, out of the habit of diving deep into technology and analysing what all features, formulae, etc have been used in a file, I came across another offering of Google which goes by the name: Google Input Tools. Most of you must already be aware of it. But for those of you who are not, it allows you to type in any language and then convert it to the desired language. It's as good as bad as the Google translator is. While the Google translator would translate word by word, ruining the sense of the whole sentence. If you are a pro in both languages and all you need is conversion to another script, Google input tools is your way to go.

Looking at the satisfactory performance of all the above platforms, I have started to believe that you may name any problem and somebody has already built an app to tackle it.

Given the pace of innovation and state-of-the-art features being added to the technology, I can somewhat foresee how in near future we, mere living beings, would be more than necessary dependent upon technology. The gravity of this relentless reliance on devices is that I'm afraid the future generations would fail to comprehend even the basic functionalities of things and might have minutes-long memory only.

Looking ages back, people discovered fire and how to get it out of stones. Something that an amateur human being wouldn't be able to do today. At least I can't.

I'm not sure about others, but this ideation is beyond the intellect of novices like me who fail to register the functioning behind the technology. And I so feel the lack of IT/musical background at this time to decipher how this 'Find a song' feature would work. I have a faint idea that it makes musical notes as its base to compare. But does Google actually stores songs in the form of notes? Or is its processing speed too quick that it is playing each song in the background and comparing its notes with the input being received on real time basis? Geeky, ain't it?

Let me illustrate my naïveté when I wondered who would've decided to make men superior beings to women in older times. I was like who would've brought this discrimination concept and on what basis did they decide the superiority, the repercussions of which are still following, although these are shrinking at a fair rate. It was then my mom reminded me that brainy work has come to the forefront only recently. Back in time, physical work was prevalent and for that, men sure have an edge over women. Hence, the placement in society.

In this way, things that were once beyond question tend to become confusing with time effect.
