Ah! Festivals...

Lately, the New Year (2016) dawned. But what was different this time was that the year 2015 passed quite quickly for me; earlier it was other people who used to say that the year went too fast, with the batting of the eyelids. I guess, it has something to do with older people (who don’t feel good each time the year passes reminding them of THE LIFE CLOCK) and maybe, now I have fallen in such category. I still feel like that it’s not long ago that 2009-2010 passed too long ago; I think I’m still living there, in that time period.

You know that a festival is surrounding when your phone beeps at regular intervals displaying ‘DHAMAKA OFFERs’. And just as I logged into Facebook, the usual was the scenario; News Feed piling up with the New Year greetings, just like it is at the time of every festival.

You don’t need to worry about missing onto something important if you don’t get time to log into your account. In any case, all most of the updates will be “Happy *the name of the festival*” which is a good thing that you are greeting others, but it gets repetitive especially if this is the case at the time of each and every festival.

However, one thing which my mom mother found odd this time was that when on the New Year’s Eve, she asked me to switch to a TV Channel which was showing some tailor-made program for the New Year. After I scanned all the channels which were showing shows like “Best of 2015 songs” and some other random award shows, she walked out saying “These all are the songs which they kept playing the whole of the year, nothing special today.” (Poor her! who would tell her that gone are the times when those programs were made, this is the songs’ era.)

Talking about us (me and my family) and how we celebrate festivals. It is quite simple; you just have to know about the name of food, which is famous for a specific festival.

If it is                     The food order                  Any other
                                       would be for                celebrations
  • Lohri                      Groudnuts, popcorn etc               -
  • Holi                                 Gujiya                                 -
  • Dusshehra                      Jalebi                                 -
  • Diwali                    Dry Fruits, Sweets, Pakoras        -
  • Republic Day                  Ladoo                                 -

In this way, we actually don’t celebrate any festival; they all just fuse into each other, just that food differ each time.
As a kid I used to hate this way of so-called celebration but now family has moulded me as well, to some extent. Meanwhile, it is India; festivals come and go at regular intervals. So, cheers to the Festivals and the off-days (holidays).
